Miguel Ramón Group is strengthening its fleet to extend its international fruit and vegetable traffic, and is opening new groupage and customs management services.
The Miguel Ramón Group is going to boost its road transport business dedicated to agro-food logistics with an increase in its business size. The fleet operator, with its headquarters in La Rápita (Tarragona), has just added 40 tractors and 10 semi-trailers to its fleet of vehicles.
The objective: “to have the fleet ready for the citrus and lettuce campaign” to the main countries of the European Union and the British market, one of the company’s specialties, according to sources from the group explained to Transporte XXI.
The tractors are Iveco S-Way, units that have a “10 percent improvement in fuel consumption” and a “reduction in CO2 emissions, thanks to a new kinematic chain, vehicle controls and improved aerodynamics,” the same sources point out.
For its part, the ten refrigerated semi-trailers have been processed, mostly, with Lecitrailer, with Thermoking Advancer equipment. The Tarragona-based company points out that “the acquisition of these units is in line with the commitment to reducing emissions and sustainability.”
Grupo Miguel Ramón exceeds one hundred tractor units.
With the new units, Miguel Ramón will be able to surpass the barrier of one hundred tractor units, an objective set by the company after having made a mixed acquisition of the fleet, with expansion and renewal units “to guarantee the season with the maximum guarantees and to take Spanish products to the main European markets.” The fleet owner has been renewing its tractor units every two years and the fleet of semi-trailers every three, while incorporating direct vision devices into its units used for distribution in the London metropolitan area, as well as specific security measures in the semi-trailers, with grade 3 security closures and roof reinforcements. Grupo Miguel Ramón is one of the historical references of international transport in the Mediterranean Arc. The fleet operator, whose origins date back to 1938, began its activity in the transport of fish in the province of Tarragona and began international traffic in the 1960s, being one of the first Spanish companies to open an office in the United Kingdom.
In fact, the Miguel Ramón Group has become a specialist in the British market for the transport of fruit, frozen vegetables, meat products, food industry and general cargo, flows that it also operates with countries such as Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and Benelux. Its area of action in Spain is the Mediterranean Corridor, between Murcia and Gerona, mainly, where it has a commercial portfolio made up of 180 clients who trust the company for the distribution of their products, both in national and international transport.
Miguel Ramón Group is working intensively in the Mediterranean Corridor.
In fact, along with other quality certifications such as IFS or GDP, Grupo Miguel Ramón is one of the few Spanish companies that is accredited with the British Retail Consortium (BRC) standard, which guarantees British distribution companies the quality and safety of their food products, thus providing the highest level of protection to both customers and consumers. One of the fleet operator’s objectives for the current campaign is to increase its groupage traffic, as well as the management of its customs services with an extension of its collaboration agreements with temperature-controlled warehouses. Along with the company’s operational base in Tarragona, the company currently has branches in Massanassa (Valencia) and Newhaven (England).
